240 A minimum — the load floor that governs motor starting
The 3RW5248-2AC15 is a SIRIUS hybrid switching device with a minimum rated operating current of 240 A, setting the floor for the motor load it can start and protect. Trip class is configurable: default CLASS 10A, with selectable CLASS 10E and CLASS 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Rated operating voltage spans 200... 600 V AC, covering 208 V, 400 V, and 480 V nominal supplies without a tap change.
Fieldbus fit — PROFIBUS, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET
This soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS DP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard communication. The PROFINET interface supports PROFIenergy when paired with the PROFINET Standard communication module — useful for coordinated energy management in automated lines. Analog output is configurable as 4... 20 mA (default) or 0... 10 V via the High Feature HMI parameter set. Remote reset is available by cycling the control supply voltage — no fieldbus command required for a simple restart after a fault clears. Firmware updates are supported, and an error logbook is available with special accessories — useful for diagnosing repeated start faults without a laptop at the panel.
Mounting and thermal derating in the panel
Mounting is screw fixing with a vertical surface orientation; the unit can be rotated ±90° and tilted ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 0 mm backwards, 75 mm downwards, and 5 mm at the sides — plan the enclosure depth and gland plate accordingly. Operating temperature range is -25... +60 °C, with derating required at 40 °C or above. In a steel-mill or foundry ambient — where the panel air might hit 50 °C — expect a current derating that must be factored into the motor selection. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g / 11 ms if contact lifting is a concern. Dimensions: 393 mm height, 210 mm width, 203 mm depth — a substantial footprint that fits a standard 600 mm deep enclosure but will crowd a shallow 400 mm panel. The 210 mm width means it occupies three or four DIN-rail module widths depending on the rail layout.
Compliance and approvals — UL, CSA, CE
Carries UL approval, CSA certification, and CE marking — accepted across North America and the European Economic Area without additional testing. The product category is hybrid switching devices, reflecting the combination of electromechanical and semiconductor switching elements inside.
