Rated voltage range and trip class selection
The 3RW5521-3HA06 is rated for 200 to 690 V, covering 208 V, 240 V, 400 V, 480 V, and 600 V nominal systems without a voltage tap change — one unit spans the low-voltage motor range common in North American and European installations. Trip class defaults to CLASS 10A or 10E per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 20E and 30E for higher-inertia loads. CLASS 10A limits the thermal overload to 10 seconds at locked-rotor current, protecting standard squirrel-cage motors during start; 20E or 30E extends the window for loads like centrifuges or crushers that need a longer acceleration ramp.
ATEX, IECEx, and North American approvals
ATEX and IECEx certification are listed on the unit, confirming compliance with explosive atmosphere directives for gas and dust groups — suitable for Zone 1/21 or Zone 2/22 installations per the equipment group and temperature class on the nameplate. UL and CSA approval are both present, so the soft starter is accepted in North American panels without additional agency review — a requirement for UL 508A listed assemblies.
Fieldbus connectivity and analog output
Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP are built in — no external gateway needed for these three protocols. PROFIBUS and PROFINET require optional communication modules; PROFIenergy is supported in conjunction with PROFINET High-Feature modules. The analog output is configurable as 4–20 mA or 0–10 V, defaulting to 4–20 mA, and can be mapped to motor current or load signal for SCADA trending without a separate current transformer.
Operating temperature and panel clearance
This affects enclosure sizing and ventilation design. Physical dimensions are 306 mm height, 185 mm width, and 203 mm depth. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm backward — the zero backward clearance allows flush mounting against a panel backplate, but the forward clearance must be maintained for wiring access and airflow.
