Motor protection and trip class selection
The 3RW5552-6HA14 offers selectable trip classes — CLASS 10A / 10E (default) / 20E / 30E — per IEC 60947-4-2, letting you match the thermal overload curve to the motor start profile. CLASS 10A is the tightest, suitable for normal starts;. Rated voltage is 200-480 V, covering standard low-voltage three-phase supplies across 50/60 Hz installations.
Fieldbus and control integration
Built-in support for PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP means this unit drops into most common industrial networks without an extra gateway. PROFINET with PROFIenergy is available via optional communication modules. Analog output configurable as 4-20 mA or 0-10 V for feeding motor current or torque to a PLC or panel meter. The accuracy class is 5 per IEC 61557-12, sufficient for monitoring and trending.
Advanced motor control functions
Includes voltage ramp start, pump ramp down (to reduce water hammer), torque control, breakaway pulse for sticky loads, and DC braking. These are parameterizable via the onboard interface or fieldbus. Service factor 1.15 allows continuous overload above nameplate rating — useful when the motor is oversized for the load. The unit also logs events and errors in a logbook, with a trace function for diagnosing start-up issues.
ATEX and hazardous area compliance
ATEX and IECEx certified (both marked Yes), meaning the soft starter is approved for use in explosive atmospheres — typically Zone 2 or Zone 22, depending on the installation. This is a key differentiator for chemical, oil/gas, and grain-handling applications. UL and CSA approvals are also present, covering North American installations. CE marking confirms conformity with EU directives.
Physical footprint and panel layout
Dimensions: 764 mm high, 478 mm wide, 241 mm deep — a substantial enclosure that needs a dedicated backplate or floor-mount. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm behind (panel-mount). Termination is via screw terminals — no special tooling needed for wiring. The unit supports firmware updates in the field, so you can apply later software revisions without swapping hardware.
