Motor starting in hazardous zones
The 3RW5553-6HA14 carries both ATEX and IECEx certification, making it suitable for soft-starting motors in classified areas — gas or dust zones where a standard starter would require an external isolation barrier.
Trip class and starting profile flexibility
Trip class is field-configurable from CLASS 10A (fast trip for light-start loads) through CLASS 30E (extended ramp for high-inertia loads), per IEC 60947-4-2 — the same standard that governs contactor/motor-starter coordination. Built-in torque control, voltage ramp, and pump ramp-down let you tune the start profile for centrifugal pumps, conveyors, or crushers without an external PLC. A breakaway pulse option handles stuck loads — the starter delivers a short torque spike before the ramp begins, then backs off to the set current limit.
Panel fit and wiring
At 764 mm high x 478 mm wide x 241 mm deep, this is a full-frame soft starter — plan the gland plate and door swing accordingly. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm behind. Termination is via screw terminals — no special crimp tool needed for the power or control wiring.
Fieldbus and monitoring for retrofit
Onboard Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS mean this starter talks to nearly any existing PLC network — no need to gut the whole line's control architecture. The event list, error logbook, and trace function capture start profiles and fault sequences — useful for diagnosing intermittent trip issues on a conveyor or pump that's been running for years. Analog output configurable as 4-20 mA or 0-10 V lets you feed motor current or torque to an existing panel meter or DCS.
CE marked, UL approved, and CSA approved — the starter meets the declaration and certification requirements for European and North American installations. DC braking, motor heating, and auto-reset with remote reset capability are built in, reducing the need for external control relays.
