What the 40 A rating means for your panel
Above 55 °C the thermal curve steps down: 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, 36.8 A at 65 °C, and 36 A at 70 °C. That matters if the breaker sits near transformers or drives inside a sealed enclosure; the 40 A nameplate holds only within the standard temperature window. Interrupting capacity follows the same honest curve: 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 7.5 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. For a 480 V panel the 32 kA figure at 440 V is the closest reference — confirm your available fault current against the 500 V rating if the system runs at 480 V nominal.
This variant ships with two factory-integrated auxiliary switches (HQ type) and an undervoltage release (UVR). No ground-fault monitoring module is included; if GF protection is required, order the 3VA1 variant with the internal ground-fault option or add an external residual-current device downstream.
The breaker measures 130 mm high × 76.2 mm wide × 70 mm deep — a 3-inch wide footprint that fits standard SENTRON mounting plates and DIN-rail adapters. No trip indicator or voltage trigger is fitted on this order code. The line-protection design means the thermal-magnetic trip curve is optimized for cable and busbar protection rather than motor or generator protection — if you need motor-circuit protection, look at the 3VA1 with electronic trip unit.
