What this MCCB delivers on the line
The Siemens 3VA2110-5JQ32-0AD0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 100 A continuous current, built around the ETU560 electronic trip unit. That trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — not a fixed thermal-magnetic bimetal. For a packaging line running multiple motor starters and heater loads off one feeder, the ETU560 lets you coordinate selectively with downstream breakers so a single fault doesn't drop the whole machine. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 4.25 kA at 690 V. At 415 V — common for European three-phase distribution — 121 kA covers most industrial transformer ratings without needing a current-limiting upstream fuse. Current rating holds at 100 A up to 50 °C ambient, then derates linearly to 85 A at 70 °C. If your panel sits near ovens or in a non-conditioned enclosure, that derating curve tells you the real ampacity without guessing.
Trip unit and protection logic
The ETU560 is an electronic trip unit with LSIG protection — long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on the L-conductor, which means it measures residual current from the three phases plus neutral without an external core-balance CT. That saves panel space and wiring compared to add-on ground-fault modules. Communication function is built in, so the trip unit can report status, alarms, and metering data over the SENTRON communication bus. For a line that tracks uptime and fault events, this avoids a separate monitoring relay. Three auxiliary switches (HQ type) are integrated for remote status indication — open/closed, tripped, and ground-fault alarm. No separate auxiliary contact block needed.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 181 mm high, 105 mm wide, 86 mm deep. The 105 mm width is standard for a 3-pole 100 A frame — it occupies three 35 mm DIN-rail modules worth of panel width. Depth of 86 mm means it clears most 200 mm deep enclosures with room for rear wiring. IP40 on the front — protected against tools and small wires, but not washdown. Keep it inside a locked panel, not on the machine surface.
