Line protection breaker with headroom to spare
The Siemens SENTRON 3VM1220-4GD42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection duty, carrying 200 A continuously at 40 °C through a TM210 thermal-magnetic release.
Breaking capacity that follows the voltage
This breaker delivers 121 kA at 240 V, 76 kA at 415 V, 53 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V. That 76 kA at 415 V is the figure most panel designers will check first — it comfortably exceeds typical utility fault levels in 400 V industrial networks, giving selectivity headroom downstream. The rated insulation voltage is 690 V, and the maximum DC operational voltage is 500 V, so it also handles battery-bank or rectifier-fed circuits within that limit.
Panel fit and environmental limits
The case measures 158 mm high, 140 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a standard MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures without surprises. Front IP40 protection keeps out tools and fingers; the interior is not sealed against washdown, so mount it in a clean dry location or behind a gland plate. Operating range spans -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 42 W at full load — account for that heat in the enclosure thermal budget.
