Commutating choke for converter duty
The Siemens 4EU5021-0AK10-0B is a three-phase commutating choke (Kommutierungsdrossel) designed for converter applications. It carries a rated current of 2500 A at 400 V AC, 50 Hz, with a rated inductance of 9.4 µH and a relative inductive voltage drop of 4% at the measurement level. The 2500 A rating is the continuous thermal current (Ithmax) — the choke is sized for the full converter output, not a derated branch.
Thermal class H and IP00 — what they mean for installation
Thermal class H per IEC 60085 means the insulation system is rated for a 180 °C hot-spot temperature, which is necessary for high-current chokes where copper losses (1650 W in the coil) and iron losses (300 W) add up. The IP00 protection class means the choke has no enclosure — it is an open-frame component intended for mounting inside a switchgear cabinet or converter cubicle where personnel access is restricted. The flat-type terminals (flat connector) are sized for the 2500 A busbar connection; expect bolted joints with proper torque.
Physical dimensions and panel fit
The choke measures 0.565 m high, 0.518 m wide, and 0.318 m deep. At roughly half a meter per side, it requires a dedicated mounting footprint inside the cabinet — not a DIN-rail component. Verify the enclosure depth and busbar access before specifying; the flat-type terminals need clearance for bolted connections.
