The Siemens SENTRON 5SN4116-8CN is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a D tripping characteristic, rated 16 A and a breaking capacity of 10 kA per EN 60898. It operates at 230/400 V AC single-phase and up to 440 V AC multi-phase. This is the MCB you spec when you need high inrush immunity — the D-curve holds through motor-start and transformer-magnetizing surges that would nuisance-trip a B or C curve.
D-curve and thermal derating
The D characteristic means the magnetic trip fires at 10 to 20 times rated current (160–320 A for this 16 A unit), so it suits loads with high inrush — small motors, solenoid banks, power supplies with large input caps. The thermal element follows a temperature-compensated bimetal: at 30 °C ambient it holds the full 16 A; at 40 °C it derates to 14.78 A; at 50 °C it drops to 13.45 A. If your panel runs hot, size the upstream protection accordingly.
Mounting and panel fit
Snaps onto standard 35 mm DIN rail, occupies one modular width unit (18 mm). Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — verify enclosure depth clearance if using a shallow gland plate. Mounting position any, so vertical or horizontal busbar runs are fine. IP20 with conductors connected, pollution degree 2, overvoltage category III. Touch-protected terminals are standard.
Environmental and compliance
Halogen-free and silicon-free construction, sealable for panel-lockout tagging. Vibration resistance rated at 50 m/s² over 25–150 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6. The SENTRON series carries the usual Siemens compliance documentation (CE, UKCA, EAC). No UL or CSA listing is stated in the evidence.
