Siemens SENTRON 5SV4644-0 — 4-pole RCCB, Type AC, 40 A, 300 mA
The Siemens SENTRON 5SV4644-0 is a 4-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB), Type AC, rated 40 A with a 300 mA trip sensitivity. It operates on a 230/400 V AC supply at 50 Hz and carries a 10 kA short-circuit current rating. This is an instantaneous-trip device — no intentional time delay — so it responds immediately to earth faults, which makes it a fit for general-purpose socket-outlet and lighting circuits in residential and commercial distribution boards where nuisance tripping from transient surges is not expected. The 300 mA sensitivity (Type AC) means it detects sinusoidal AC residual currents only. That is the standard choice for basic shock and fire protection in circuits without electronic loads that generate pulsed or high-frequency DC fault currents. For VFDs, UPS systems, or EV chargers, a Type A or Type B RCCB would be needed — this Type AC unit is not suitable there.
Panel fit and mounting
Snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail (REG) and occupies 4 modular width units (72 mm wide). The 60 mm grid spacing aligns with standard distribution board cut-outs. Mounting position is unrestricted — any orientation works. Depth is 70 mm, matching the installation depth, so it sits flush with other SENTRON 4-MW devices in the same row. Supply can feed from top or bottom. IP20 rating applies with the distribution board installed and conductors connected — standard for enclosed panel use, not for wet or dusty environments. Overvoltage category III means it is rated for fixed installation downstream of the main distribution board.
Electrical ratings and coordination
Rated conditional short-circuit current per IEC 61008-1 is 0.8 kA, backed by a maximum permissible series fuse of 80 A. The 10 kA SCCR applies when the RCCB is coordinated with an upstream overcurrent protective device — typically a 63 A or 80 A MCB or fuse. Without that coordination, the 0.8 kA value governs. Power loss is 2 W per pole in hot operating state. Ambient temperature range is -25 °C to +45 °C operating, with storage down to -40 °C. Silicon-free construction is noted — relevant for certain automotive or high-reliability coating processes where silicone outgassing must be avoided.
