What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SY7110-8CC is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a D tripping characteristic, designed to protect branch circuits against overloads and short circuits in industrial control panels and mechanical engineering applications. The D curve means it tolerates high inrush currents — typical for motor loads, transformers, and welding equipment — without nuisance tripping, while still clearing faults at its rated breaking capacity. Rated 15 kA per EN 60898 and 25 kA per IEC 60947-2 at 400 V AC, it handles substantial fault currents in 50/60 Hz systems. Under UL 1077 / CSA C22.2 No.235, the rating is 5 kA — check which standard governs your installation.
Mounting and integration
Snaps onto DIN rail via the quick assembly system, occupying 1 modular width unit (18 mm wide). Mounting position is unrestricted, and the installation depth is 70 mm with a total depth of 76 mm — fits standard enclosures without extra clearance. Combined terminals at top and bottom accept supply from any direction. The breaker is sealable and halogen-free / silicon-free, suitable for sensitive environments like food processing or semiconductor fabs. IP20 protection (with connected conductors) and pollution degree 3 mean it's intended for dry indoor panels — not for washdown or outdoor exposure without an enclosure.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Supplementary devices (auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, alarm switches) can be installed on the right side per the manufacturer's accessory range.
