The Siemens 6EP3124-0TA00-0AY0 is a 24 V DC switched-mode power supply rated for 15 A continuous, with a typical output of 16 A. It delivers 91% efficiency at rated load, which keeps heat dissipation low in a crowded cabinet. The input accepts 14 to 32 V DC, so it works on nominal 24 V battery-backed or rectified DC buses without a separate input module. Mounting is standard DIN rail per EN 60715 (35×7.5/15). Clearance of 50 mm above and below the unit is required for natural convection cooling; the side gaps can be zero. The output is galvanically isolated and SELV-rated per EN 60950-1, so it is safe for powering PLCs, I/O racks, sensors, and other 24 V control loads in industrial and commercial panels. The unit is also approved for shipboard use (ABS, DNV GL), which extends its suitability to marine and offshore installations.
Ratings That Drive the Selection
Between +60 °C and +70 °C ambient, the output must be reduced by 2% per Kelvin. At +65 °C, for example, the usable current drops to about 13.5 A. If the panel runs hot, size up or add forced air. Startup is guaranteed from 18 V DC, with derated operation possible down to 14 V DC. This is useful for battery-backed systems where the bus voltage sags under load. The inrush current is limited to an I²t of 0.6 A²·s, which prevents nuisance tripping of upstream breakers. The recommended upstream protection is a 16 A miniature circuit breaker, characteristic B or C. The unit itself has an internal non-accessible 25 A fuse with a breaking capacity of 300 A, so it can handle a hard output short without cascading.
Approvals include cULus (UL 508, CSA C22.2 No. 107.1), CE, EAC, and DNV GL. The UL file number is E197259. No ATEX or IECEx certification — this is not a hazardous-location power supply. For a standard control panel or marine installation, the existing approvals cover the regulatory scope.
Terminal and Wiring Notes
Output terminals (+, -) are also screw terminals, same wire range. A separate signaling contact terminal block is provided for remote monitoring. All terminals are sized for standard panel wiring; no special tools needed. The unit can be bridged with a buffer module if ride-through during line dips is required. That is an accessory, not included, but the capability is built into the design.
