What this module is for
The Siemens 6ES7141-5AH00-0BA0 is a compact ET 200AL I/O module packing 16 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs in a 45 mm wide housing built for the pit. It connects via M8, 4-pin shielded connectors, rated IP65/67, so it shrugs off the abrasive dust and washdown cycles on a crusher or flotation line.
Temperatures and environmental limits
Rated from -30 °C to 55 °C ambient, this module handles the cold starts in a northern pit and the heat inside a sealed panel next to a VFD.
Input and output specs that matter
The 16 inputs sink 3.2 mA typical at 24 VDC, with signal thresholds of -30 to +5 V for logic 0 and +11 to +30 V for logic 1 — compatible with standard 24 V sensors and 2-wire proximity switches. Input transition times are 1.2 ms to 4.8 ms, fast enough for most discrete sensing on conveyors and chutes. The 8 outputs provide a total encoder supply current of 1.4 A, with electronic short-circuit protection per module and reverse-polarity protection against destruction. Power loss is 2.7 W typical, so it doesn't cook its neighbours in a dense I/O rack.
Safety and diagnostics
Rated SIL 2 per IEC 62061 and Category 3 per ISO 13849-1, this module can be used in safety-related applications up to those levels — guarding a hazard zone on a mill or conveyor. Diagnostic alarm is parameterizable, with a green/red LED for module diagnostics and a green LED per channel for status — helps a field service tech isolate a fault without a laptop. I&M data up to I&M3 is supported, making asset tracking and firmware management straightforward during commissioning.
