Safety-rated I/O for the pit and the mill
This is the Siemens 6ES7148-4FC00-0AB0 — a PROFIsafe fail-safe electronic module in the ET200 PRO family. It packs 8 fail-safe digital inputs and 4 fail-safe digital outputs rated at 2 A each, all running on 24 V DC. The safety integrity is SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and PL e per ISO 13849-1, so it handles e-stop chains, guard door monitoring, and light curtain interfaces in heavy industrial environments without blinking. Built for the pit — the module is part of the ET200 PRO line, designed for distributed I/O on machines and conveyors where dust, vibration, and supply dips are the norm, not the exception.
Panel fit and thermal budget
The module measures 90 mm wide, 130 mm high, and 65 mm deep. The 90 mm width is the standard ET200 PRO pitch — it mounts on the same DIN rail as the rest of the distributed I/O bank. Typical power loss is 5.8 W, so in a sealed cabinet with multiple modules side by side, you need to account for that heat. The module draws its load supply from 2L+ (24 V DC) and a minimal backplane current from the bus. No NEC Class 2 supply required, but treat the 24 V feed as you would any safety-rated I/O power — separate fused and monitored.
