What it is and what it does
The Siemens 6ES7193-6BP20-2BB0 is a SIMATIC ET 200SP BaseUnit, type designation BU20-P12+A4+0B. It is the mechanical and electrical backbone for one I/O module in an ET 200SP distributed I/O station. Think of it as the carrier that snaps onto the DIN rail, provides the backplane bus connection, and brings the field wiring to the module's terminals. This particular BaseUnit has 12 process terminals for the I/O module (the Pro slot), plus 4 AUX terminals bridged to the left. The AUX bus is rated for 230 V and up to 10 A, and it shares an equal potential group with the / bus or PE. The and bus also carries 230 V, with a 10 A maximum. Process terminals are rated for 230 V at up to 5 A. Termination is via push-in terminals, accepting solid or ferruled stranded wire from 0.14 mm² (AWG 26) up to 2.5 mm² (AWG 14). The BaseUnit includes automatic encoding — when you seat the I/O module, the mechanical keying is set automatically, preventing a mismatch if you swap modules later.
Mounting and environment
The 6ES7193-6BP20-2BB0 is a 20 mm wide unit, 117 mm tall, and 35 mm deep. It snaps onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail. The slim width is the key panel-space number — each BaseUnit consumes one slot width, so a full ET 200SP station's rail length is the sum of its BaseUnits plus the interface module. Ambient temperature range depends on orientation. Horizontally installed, it's rated from -30 °C to 60 °C. Vertically installed, the maximum drops to 50 °C. Maximum installation altitude is 2 000 m standard; higher altitudes are possible on request. An optional system-integrated shield connection is available for the field wiring. Isolation is tested at 3 100 V DC between the backplane bus and the supply voltage, and between the process terminals (1 to 8) and the supply voltage. There is no isolation between the power bus and the supply voltage.
