What this module does on the S7-1500 rack
The 6ES7522-1BH00-0AB0 is a 16-channel transistor digital output module for the Siemens S7-1500 system. It sinks 0.5 A per channel at 24 VDC, with a per-group maximum of 4 A and a module total of 8 A — the group limit governs real-world loading when several outputs fire simultaneously. MSO (isochronous mode) is supported, meaning the output update is synchronised to the PROFINET cycle — essential for applications that need deterministic switching, such as high-speed pick-and-place or cam-controlled motion. Short-circuit protection is built in, with a response threshold of 1 A typical per channel. The module also reports diagnostic alarms and channel status via green and red LEDs, so a faulted output is visible at the rack without a handheld tool.
Switching performance and wiring constraints
The output turns on in 100 µs max and off in 500 µs max — fast enough for most sequencing but not for PWM or high-frequency lamp loads (rated 10 Hz max on lamp load). Unshielded cable runs up to 600 m; shielded up to 1 000 m. The load resistance range for signal "1" is 48 Ω to 12 kΩ — stay inside that window or the module may not recognise the load as valid. All 16 outputs share a common reference — no channel-to-channel isolation.
Firmware version V2.0.0 is factory-loaded. The module supports I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) and prioritised startup, so it fits into a standard S7-1500 configuration without a firmware update for most projects.
Panel fit and mechanical integration
Width is 35 mm — one standard S7-1500 slot. Depth 129 mm, height 147 mm. The module snaps onto the DIN rail and connects to the backplane bus via the U-connector; no wiring to the backplane itself.
