RFID reader for Zone 2/22 environments
The Siemens 6GT2801-4BA10-0AX2 is a SIMATIC RF300 RFID reader (RF350R GEN2) operating at 13.56 MHz with an RS422 interface using the 3964R protocol. It is designed for industrial identification in environments requiring ATEX Zone 3G/3D and IECEx Zone 2/22 certification, making it suitable for petrochemical and process areas where explosive atmospheres may be present. The IP64 enclosure means the reader body resists dust ingress and water splashes from any direction — adequate for washdown areas but not for continuous submersion. The housing is PA 12 (polyamide), silicon-free, and rated for a -25 to +70 °C operating range.
Read/write performance and antenna integration
Typical read and write access per byte is 0.13 ms, with a maximum transfer rate of 106 kbit/s over the air interface. The reader supports RF300-specific, ISO 15693, ISO 18000-3, and ISO 14443 protocols. It is not multitag-capable — each read cycle handles one transponder at a time. One external antenna connects via an M8, 4-pin connector; a fixed 3 m antenna cable is supplied. The RS422 communication interface uses an M12, 8-pin connector, with a maximum cable length of 1000 m. Mounting uses two M5 screws into the 75 x 75 x 41 mm footprint.
The reader is specified for use with RF300, ISO 15693, and MOBY E transponders.
