Duty ratings that size the motor
The 6SL3210-1PE31-5AL0 is a SINAMICS G120 Power Module PM240-2 in blocksize format, rated for three-phase 380-480 VAC input at 47-63 Hz. It delivers 55 kW under high overload (HO) conditions: 200 % for 3 seconds, 150 % for 57 seconds, 100 % for 240 seconds, with an ambient range of -20 to +50 °C. Under low overload (LO) it delivers 75 kW: 150 % for 3 seconds, 110 % for 57 seconds, 100 % for 240 seconds, with ambient from -20 to +40 °C. The LO rating applies when the load profile is steady-state and the drive can run cooler. Sizing the drive to the motor's actual duty cycle — not just the nameplate kW — is the difference between a drive that holds and one that trips on overload during a jam.
Built-in filter and braking chopper
This PM240-2 includes a built-in Class A EMC filter and a built-in braking chopper. The Class A filter meets conducted emission limits for industrial environments without an external filter module — one less component to panel-mount and wire. The braking chopper allows dynamic braking with an external resistor, dumping regenerated energy from fast deceleration cycles without tripping the DC bus overvoltage threshold. For a commissioning engineer, this means the drive can handle high-inertia loads like centrifuges or unwind stands where the motor regenerates during deceleration. The braking resistor is sized to the deceleration duty cycle — the chopper itself is rated for the full bus voltage.
Panel fit and control unit slot
The module ships as an IP20 power section in FSF frame size, measuring 708 x 305 x 357 mm (H x W x D). It requires a top clearance for cable entry and airflow — the IP20 rating means no washdown protection, so it lives inside a cabinet. The packaging dimensions are 745 x 469 x 385 mm, which is the shipping box, not the drive footprint. The drive is supplied without a Control Unit (CU) or operator panel — the CU slots onto the front of the PM240-2 and is ordered separately. Approved for CU firmware version V4.7 HF8 and later. The CU selection determines the fieldbus interface (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, EtherNet/IP, etc.) and the I/O count, so the CU must be matched to the network architecture before the drive is commissioned.
Compliance and export documentation
RoHS compliant since January 1, 2017. REACH Article 33 disclosure: contains lead (CAS 7439-92-1) above 0.1 % w/w in one or more components — this triggers the duty to inform under EU REACH for downstream users. Export control classification is AL: N / ECCN: 9N9999, meaning no special license is required for most destinations, but cross-border traders should verify the end-use and end-user against current sanctions lists.
