Duty profile that decides the application
The 6SL3210-1RE28-8AL0: This PM240P-2 Power Module delivers 37 kW at 150 % overload for 60 s, then settles to 100 % for 240 s under high-overload duty — that's the cycle for a punch press or extruder that needs a burst of torque without tripping the drive. Switch to low-overload mode and it handles 45 kW continuous with a 135 % peak for 3 s, then 110 % for 57 s — a conveyor or pump that rarely sees transient loads can run at the higher base rating. The integrated Class A filter means it meets EN 61800-3 conducted emission limits without an external filter box — saves a DIN rail slot and a wiring step in the panel.
Lifecycle reality — NRND and what that means for the BOM
Siemens lists this module as NRND (Not Recommended for New Design) — the drive family is still supported for existing installations, but new projects should look at the current G120X or G120XA series for long-term availability. Product class C means it's manufactured to order and cannot be returned or re-stocked — confirm the BOM line before committing, because once ordered it's yours. RoHS compliant since December 2016, but the REACH declaration flags lead (CAS 7439-92-1) above 0.1 % — factor that into any substance-restriction audit for the end customer.
Physical fit and integration constraints
The module measures 551 x 275 x 237 mm (HxWxD) and ships in a 595 x 400 x 350 mm box — plan the panel cut-out and the incoming goods staging area accordingly. IP20 degree of protection means it's intended for a clean, dry cabinet — no washdown or dust exposure without a separate enclosure. Released for use with Control Unit firmware V4.7 SP6 HF1 or later — if the site is running older firmware, the module may not parameterise correctly on first power-up.
