Duty profiles that set the operating envelope
The 6SL3210-1RE31-5AL0: This PM240P-2 power module carries two distinct overload ratings — not a single number. In high overload (HO) duty it delivers 55 kW with a 150 % overload for 60 seconds and 100 % for 240 seconds, with ambient temperature rated from -20 to +50 °C. In low overload (LO) duty it delivers 75 kW with a 135 % overload for 3 seconds and 110 % for 57 seconds, but the ambient ceiling drops to +40 °C. The HO rating is the one that holds the unit on the grid for a pump or fan load that needs starting torque margin; the LO rating suits a conveyor that runs steady-state and rarely sees a transient beyond the 3-second window. The built-in Class A EMC filter covers conducted emissions on the 380-480 VAC, 47-63 Hz input — no external filter needed for EN 61800-3 Category C2 installations in an industrial power network. The IP20 enclosure means the module lives inside a panel; the 708 x 305 x 357 mm (HxWxD) FSF frame size dictates the gland-plate layout and the DIN-rail or backplate mounting pattern.
NRND — what it means for procurement
Siemens lists this power module as NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs). The lifecycle stage is marked mature, which in Siemens' SINAMICS roadmap signals that the design is stable but no longer the target for new projects. The product class is C — manufactured or produced to order, not held as standard stock. This means the unit is built against a specific order, cannot be reused or returned for credit, and the lead time follows the production schedule rather than a shelf-pick.
Firmware and control unit pairing
This power module ships without a Control Unit (CU) and without the operator panel. It is approved for use with CU firmware version V4.7 SP6 HF1 or later — a mismatch between the CU firmware and the power module firmware can trip a fault before the drive even starts. The commissioning engineer must verify the CU firmware revision before mating the module; a firmware update via the memory card or SINAMICS Startdrive may be required. The REACH Article 33 declaration notes lead (CAS 7439-92-1) above 0.1 % w/w in the product. RoHS compliance is effective from 22-12-16. These declarations matter for end-of-life recycling reporting and for any customer whose environmental compliance policy restricts lead content in installed equipment.
