What this PST30 does on the line
The ABB PST30 soft starter 1SFA894002R7020 is a solid-state reduced-voltage starter for three-phase induction motors. It ramps motor voltage from 30 to 70 % of line during start, with an adjustable ramp time from 0 to 120 seconds, then transitions to bypass — the built-in bypass contactor carries the load at full line voltage after start, so the thyristors are out of circuit during run, saving heat and extending life. Rated 30 A in-line connection (15 kW at 400 V) and 52 A inside-delta connection (25 kW at 400 V). The inside-delta wiring puts the soft starter in the motor winding legs, so each phase carries less current than the line — that 52 A delta rating lets you start a bigger motor than the 30 A in-line number suggests. Service factor 115 % means it can run at 115 % of rated current without tripping the built-in electronic overload.
Control and feedback
Control supply is 100–250 V AC; a separate 24 V DC control circuit is available for PLC interface. Screw terminals on the control circuit, torque to 0.5 N·m. The unit includes run, fault, bypass, and overload signal relays — four separate dry contacts you can wire back to a PLC or indicator panel. A red LED for fault, yellow for protection. Analog output 0–10 V for current or ramp status feedback. Communication is via a standard FieldBusPlug — ABB's modular bus connector that snaps onto the front. No internal fieldbus; the plug carries the bus signal through. The current limit function is adjustable from 1.5 to 7 times the motor rated current (Ie), and the step-down voltage ramp can be set from 100 % down to 30 % of line.
