Functional envelope
The ABB 1SFA896106R1100 is a PSR12 softstarter with voltage ramp start, 0... 20 second ramp time, and adjustable initial voltage during start of 40... 70 % with a step-down special ramp of 100... 60 %. Starting capacity is rated 4xIe for 6s, so it handles the inrush profile of a standard induction motor within the PSR frame class. Control supply is 24 V AC/DC, and the device runs on 208... 600 V AC at 50/60 Hz, covering common industrial mains from a single unit.
Overload coordination and signaling
Electronic overload is not integrated and the unit has no current limit function, so protection is specified separately: the data sheet recommends an ABB MS132 10.00... 16.00 overload. Wire that breaker upstream and coordinate its trip class with the softstarter's 4xIe for 6s starting capacity. A run signal relay is present; fault, by-pass, and overload signal relays are not. If the panel logic expects a fault contact, plan to source that from the upstream MS132 rather than from the softstarter itself.
Fieldbus and wiring
Communication is via an optional FieldBusPlug; the base unit ships without a fieldbus interface. Terminals are screw type, main circuit rigid 1/2 x 0.75... 2.5 mm², control circuit 1 x 0.75... 2.5 mm², control-circuit tightening torque 1 N·m. Main terminals IP20.
