What it does on the line
The ABB PSR37 (1SFA896110R7000) is a soft start with voltage ramp rated for 208 … 600 V AC operation at 50/60 Hz, with a starting capacity of 4xIe for 6s — the figure that governs how heavy a load it can break away on a cold start. Ramp behaviour is dialed in on the front of the unit: ramp time 0 … 20 s, initial voltage during start 40 … 70 %, and a step-down special ramp of 100 … 60 % — a fixed profile, no current-limit function on board.
Control side and fieldbus
Control supply is 100 … 240 V AC; the control circuit runs at 24 V DC, so the panel PSU needs to carry both rails if the existing cabinet doesn't already. Communication is an optional FieldBusPlug — there is no inside-delta connection, so this is line-voltage starting only. Signal relays cover run and by-pass indication; fault signal relay and overload signal relay are not fitted, so those PLC inputs need to be sourced another way.
Overload, wiring and environment
There is no integrated electronic overload — ABB recommends pairing with an MS450 28 … 40 to cover the thermal trip envelope on this PSR37 frame, which means the overload sits as a separate BOM line directly below the starter. Main circuit accepts rigid 1 x 6 … 35 mm² on screw terminals; supply and control circuits take rigid 1 x 0.75 … 2.5 mm² on the same terminal style. Control-circuit tightening torque is 0.6 N·m (5.3 in·lb per the UL/CSA figure). Main terminals carry IP10 per IEC 60529 / IEC 60947-1 — finger-safe against incidental contact inside the panel, not a sealed enclosure.
Compliance documentation
RoHS compliance is documented per EU Directive 2011/65/EU and Amendment 2015/863 of 22 July 2019; the unit is classed as WEEE Category 5 small equipment, B2B supply channel.
