As the central controller in a Modicon Quantum rack, the 140CPU31110 executes the user program and coordinates local and remote I/O. Its 548 kB of internal RAM sizes the application — enough for medium-scale process and machine logic with data handling and recipe management. The processor supports one cyclic/periodic master task, one periodic fast task, 16 timer interrupt tasks, and 64 I/O interrupt tasks, with execution times of 0.12–0.585 µs for Boolean and word operations. The two Modbus ports handle serial communication with legacy drives, meters, and HMI panels, while the Modbus Plus port provides a high-speed peer-to-peer network for distributed control.
