Overview
This processor carries Checks for Process control Hot standby, operates as an Ethernet router, and is certified for HazLoc environments plus California Proposition 65 compliance. It ships in a PCE package with 18-month warranty.
Application structure supports one cyclic/periodic master task plus one periodic fast task (forbidden in Hot Standby), 128 I/O interrupt tasks, 128 interrupt tasks, 32 timer interrupt tasks, and 4 auxiliary tasks — all forbidden in Hot Standby mode. System overhead runs 0.2 ms for the fast task and 1 ms for the master task. The key switch controls memory port on/off.
Communication & I/O architecture
Integrated connections include one Modbus Plus port (SUB-D 9 female), one Modbus port, one USB port, and one MT-RJ multimode fiber optic link for interconnecting primary and secondary PLCs up to 4 km apart. The module also functions as an Ethernet router. The module occupies slot 0 in a 2-rack local configuration with 10 slots per rack. Six optional modules (Ethernet, Modbus, Modbus Plus, Profibus DP, Sy/Max) can be added. Application-specific I/O includes high-speed interrupt inputs, serial link, accurate time stamping, and counter functions.
Applications
The 140CPU67160 sits at the heart of Modicon Quantum Hot Standby systems — redundant controller pairs in process plants, water treatment facilities, power generation, and critical infrastructure where a single PLC failure cannot stop production. The fiber optic link between primary and secondary processors maintains synchronisation and bumpless transfer on fault. Outside Hot Standby, it serves as a standalone Unity processor for medium-to-large machine and process automation — packaging lines, conveyor networks, chemical batch skids — coordinating distributed I/O over Modbus Plus and Ethernet, with the Ethernet router function handling plant-wide data routing.
Compliance & certifications
Product certifications include CE, UL, Misc (Marine), CSA, and GOST. The module carries HazLoc approval for hazardous location installations and is listed under California Proposition 65. These certifications cover the unit as shipped; no separate RoHS or REACH declarations are listed in the evidence.
