Overview

The 140NOM21200C is a Schneider Modicon Quantum automation platform DIO head-end adaptor, order code 140NOM21200C, handling 30 input and 32 output words of I/O data. It carries one Modbus RS232 port and two Modbus Plus RS485 twisted-pair redundant copper ports, all running at 1 Mbit/s. The module draws 4.0 W, includes conformal coating (Humiseal 1A33), and is certified to UL 508.

As a DIO head-end adaptor, the 140NOM21200C sits at the front of a distributed I/O drop, converting the Modbus Plus fieldbus into a local backplane for Quantum I/O modules. The 30 input words and 32 output words define the total data payload the adaptor can exchange with the controller — enough for a medium-sized drop of digital and analog modules. The dual Modbus Plus ports provide redundant cabling paths; a break on one twisted pair does not drop the drop. The separate Modbus RS232 port is available for local commissioning or connection to a serial HMI or gateway.

Applications

This DIO head-end adaptor is used in Modicon Quantum control systems to connect remote I/O racks over Modbus Plus, a deterministic fieldbus common in process plants, water treatment facilities, and material handling lines. The redundant twisted-pair ports suit installations where cable fault tolerance is required without a separate media redundancy protocol.
