The Schneider A9L16296 is an Acti9 iQuick PRD20r Type 2 surge arrester — 3-pole, MOV-based, rated 400 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with a maximum continuous operating voltage of 350 V L/PE. It packs a 20 kA common-mode max discharge and a 5 kA nominal discharge on both common and differential modes. The integrated circuit breaker gives it a 25 kA Icu, so a single unit handles both surge diversion and overcurrent disconnection in one DIN-rail clip-on footprint.
This part is obsolete per Schneider's lifecycle record.
The 20 kA max discharge (Imax) tells you the arrester can survive a single high-energy surge without failing short — useful for distribution panels in areas with moderate lightning exposure. The 5 kA nominal discharge (In) is the repeated-event rating; that's the number for coordination with upstream SPDs. The <1.5 kV protection level (Up) means downstream equipment sees clamping at that threshold, which is standard for Type 2 protection at the sub-distribution board. The integrated 25 kA Icu breaker eliminates the need for a separate MCB ahead of the MOV cartridge — saves one DIN position and one wiring step.
Integration & Deployment
Clip-on DIN rail mount, 113.6 mm wide (9 modules at 12.7 mm pitch), 75.9 mm deep, 94 mm tall. Tunnel terminals accept 2.5 to 25 mm² on both line and load sides; torque to 2.5 N·m. The remote signaling contact (1 C/O, rated 2 A / 250 V AC) lets a PLC or building management system pick up the end-of-life flag from the pluggable cartridge — useful when the arrester is buried inside a panel with no local indicator visible. Storage tolerance from -40 to 70 °C.
