The Schneider Electric A9L16556 is an Acti9 iPRD65r Type 2 surge arrester — a 1-pole MOV-based unit rated for 230 V AC (+/-10 %) networks in TN-C and TT earthing systems.
This arrester handles a nominal discharge current of 20 kA (L/PE and N/PE) and a maximum discharge of 65 kA common mode L/PE — enough for direct lightning-induced surges on a building entry panel. The voltage protection level (Up) stays below 1.5 kV, which keeps transient energy from punching through downstream equipment insulation. Continuous operating voltage (Uc) is 340 V L/PE and N/PE, so it holds steady on a 230 V supply even with sustained overvoltage up to that ceiling.
Remote signaling contact
A built-in changeover contact (1 C/O) rated 0.25 A / 250 V AC provides remote indication of arrester status — useful for a BMS or PLC input that flags a failed cartridge without sending someone to open the panel door.
