Type 2 Surge Arrester for TN-S and TT Systems
The Schneider Electric A9L16617 is a Type 2 surge arrester from the Acti9 iQuick PF series, designed for 1P+N distribution networks at 230 V AC (+/- 10 %) 50/60 Hz. It uses a hybrid MOV + GDT technology to clamp transient overvoltages, with a maximum continuous operating voltage (Uc) of 275 V in both common and differential modes. Rated for a nominal discharge current (In) of 5 kA differential (L/N) and 10 kA common mode (N/PE), with a maximum discharge current (Imax) of 10 kA on both paths. The voltage protection level (Up) is held below 1.5 kV for Type 2 L/N paths, which is the key figure for ensuring downstream equipment withstands the let-through voltage. The follow current (Ifi) is specified at 0.1 kA common mode N/PE.
Temporary Overvoltage and Earthing Compatibility
This arrester is rated for TN-S and TT earthing systems. The temporary overvoltage (Ut) withstand is 337 V L/N for 5 seconds, 1200 V N/PE for 200 ms in safe failure mode, and 442 V L/PE for 5 seconds — important for networks where a neutral shift or loss of neutral can occur. Ground residual current (Ipe) is 1 mA, and the device is rated for an IK03 impact protection level per IEC 62262, meaning it withstands a 0.35 J impact — sufficient for enclosed panel mounting.
The housing is white (RAL 9003). Tunnel-type terminals accept 1 to 16 mm² rigid (L/N), 1 to 10 mm² flexible (L/N), and 6 to 25 mm² rigid (ground).
