Type 2 (Class II) per IEC 61643-1 / EN 61643-11 means it handles induced lightning surges on the distribution board side — not direct strikes (Type 1) and not equipment-level protection (Type 3). The 65 kA max discharge (Imax) is the one-shot survival limit; the 20 kA nominal (In) is the repeated-surge rating that governs service life. A protection level (Up) under 2 kV at In means downstream equipment with a 2.5 kV impulse withstand (Category III) stays within its coordination margin. Response under 25 ns is typical for MOV technology — fast enough for most SPD coordination schemes.
Panel integration
The cartridge plugs into the iPRD65r base (sold separately). The base mounts on DIN rail; the cartridge itself is not DIN-rail mountable. The white/red flag gives local visual indication of end-of-life (MOV failed open). Dimensions: 18 mm wide (1 module width), 50 mm high, 60 mm deep — fits standard 18 mm pitch enclosures.
System compatibility
Rated for IT earthing systems (unearthed or high-impedance earthed networks) — not TN or TT without checking the Uc margin. The 440 V Uc (maximum continuous operating voltage) is high enough for 230/400 V IT systems where phase-to-phase voltage can appear across L-PE. Altitude limit 2000 m; above that, derate the voltage withstand.
