The Schneider Electric A9L2F640 is an Acti9 iPRD F40r surge arrester — a Type 2+3 unit with pluggable cartridges, designed for the electrical distribution network. It uses MOV + GDT technology to clamp both differential-mode (L/N) and common-mode (N/PE) transients, with a nominal discharge current of 20 kA per mode and a maximum of 40 kA (L/N) / 65 kA (N/PE). Rated for 230/400 V AC at 50/60 Hz, it handles TT and TN-S earthing systems, with a temporary overvoltage withstand of 337 V L/N for 5 seconds and 442 V L/N for 120 minutes in safe failure mode. The response time is under 25 ns for L/N paths and under 100 ns for N/PE — fast enough to clip most incoming surges before they reach downstream equipment.
Clip-on DIN rail mounting (72 mm wide, 105 mm high, 70 mm deep) fits standard distribution board spacing — 8 modules of 9 mm pitch. IP20 with cartridges fitted and wired; IK05 impact resistance. Power terminals accept 2.5–35 mm² solid/stranded cable; earthing terminal goes up to 35 mm² solid. Wire stripping lengths: 18 mm for power and earth, 10 mm for remote signalling.
Compliant with IEC 61643-11:2011, EN 61643-11:2012, and EN 61643-11:2018/A11 — the governing standards for low-voltage surge protective devices. The remote signalling contact is rated 1 A / 250 V AC and 0.5 A at 24/48 V DC for connection to a PLC or alarm panel.
