The A9L40300 is a Type 2 surge arrester from the Acti9 iPRD40 range, designed for 3-phase distribution boards. The 40 kA maximum discharge current (Imax) per L/PE path means it can safely divert a single high-energy surge from a nearby lightning strike; the 15 kA nominal discharge current (In) is the sustained rating it handles repeatedly without degrading. The 350 V Uc continuous operating voltage matches 400 V AC (+/-10%) TN-C and IT 230 V earthing systems — common in European commercial and light industrial panels. The pluggable cartridge lets a panel OEM or MRO planner swap the MOV module without pulling the base wiring, which keeps line-down time under a minute.
The housing is 54 mm wide — three 18 mm modular pitches — and 85 mm tall, 69 mm deep. That puts it in a standard 3-module slot on any DIN-rail enclosure. The tunnel terminals accept 2.5 to 35 mm² on both top and bottom, so it handles incoming mains tails as well as downstream distribution wiring. Tightening torque is 2.5 N.m, typical for a 35 mm² clamp. The white RAL 9003 colour matches the rest of the Acti9 family, which keeps a uniform look in a panel that a quality doc controller or inspector might photograph for the FAT record.
Associated disconnector and coordination
Schneider specifies associated circuit breakers and fuses for the iPRD40. The list includes the iC60H (40 A, curve C, 15 kA Icu), iC60N (40 A, 10 kA), and gG fuses up to 80 A.
