Product identity and lifecycle
The Schneider Electric A9Q16340 is an add-on residual current device (RCD) from the Acti9 Vigi iC60 range, designed for AC networks at 50/60 Hz. It is a 3-pole unit rated at 40 A with a 500 mA earth-leakage sensitivity, Type AC (sinusoidal AC residual currents only). The manufacturer lists this part as obsolete.
Rated operational voltage is 230…415 V AC, covering standard single-phase and three-phase supplies. The 500 mA sensitivity is instantaneous — no intentional time delay — so it trips without added lag on a ground fault. This is a voltage-independent RCD: the tripping mechanism does not rely on the line voltage to operate, which means it remains functional even if the neutral is lost upstream. The 6 kV rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp) per IEC 60947-2 indicates it can handle typical surge events without damage.
Clip-on mounting onto DIN rail, 7 module pitches wide (9 mm per pitch = 63 mm width). Depth is 73.5 mm, height 91 mm. The unit plugs into the downstream side of a compatible Acti9 iC60 MCB via the integrated plug-in electrical connection — no additional wiring between the MCB and RCD. Stripping length 14 mm. IP20 finger-safe protection; IP40 inside a modular enclosure.
Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-2. Storage temperature range -40…85 °C; operating range -5…60 °C. The 8/20 µs impulse withstand of 250 A per IEC 61009-1 covers common surge shapes. Documentation for RoHS, REACH, and UL compliance should be requested at quote time — the spec record does not list those certifications explicitly.
