Arc fault detection add-on block, 40 A, 1P+N
The Schneider Electric A9TAB1640 is an arc fault detection add-on block from the Acti9 ARC iC40 range, rated 40 A and configured 1P+N. It clips onto the DIN rail alongside a compatible MCB, extending that breaker with series arc fault protection per EN/IEC 62606. The 40 A rating matches the thermal capacity of the downstream circuit — sized for a 40 A outgoing feeder in a final distribution board. Network frequency is 50 Hz; operational voltage 230 V AC.
The 1P+N configuration means it switches the line conductor and monitors the neutral; neutral position is left, so it mates with the corresponding pole on the host MCB. Threshold tripping voltage is 275 V ±5 V — the block triggers arc detection when the line-to-neutral voltage crosses that window, which is the standard threshold for a 230 V nominal system. Mechanical durability is 20 000 cycles; electrical durability 10 000 cycles at 230 V AC under IEC 62606. For a protective device that is rarely cycled manually, those figures are comfortably above the service life of the panel.
The block occupies 2 x 9 mm pitches (18 mm) of rail width. Electrical connection to the host MCB is by screws (tunnel terminals accept 1–10 mm² flexible or 1–16 mm² rigid copper). Neutral position left means it attaches to the right side of a single-pole MCB — verify orientation before clipping on.
Rated for indoor use in pollution degree 2 environments (non-conductive dust, occasional condensation). Operating temperature range –25 to 40 °C; storage –40 to 80 °C. Tropicalisation severity B per IEC 60068-2-30 for 28 days — the block withstands 28 cycles of damp heat at 95 % relative humidity and 55 °C. IMQ quality label applied. Colour is white RAL 9003, standard for European consumer units and small distribution boards.
