Add-on RCD for iC60 MCBs, 4P 63A Type A
The Schneider Electric A9W22463 is a 4-pole add-on residual current device (RCD) from the Acti9 Vigi iC60 range, designed to clip directly onto the outgoing side of an iC60 miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with double terminals. It provides earth leakage protection for a 63 A circuit at 230/415 V AC, with a 100 mA sensitivity and Type A waveform detection — covering sinusoidal AC and pulsating DC fault currents up to 6 mA smooth DC, per IEC 61009-1. The trip is instantaneous, meaning no intentional time delay; the device reacts to the residual current as it occurs.
The 63 A rated current (In) sets the maximum continuous load the RCD can carry; this matches a 63 A iC60 MCB upstream or downstream. The 100 mA sensitivity is higher than the typical 30 mA for personal shock protection — it is selected for equipment protection or where nuisance tripping from leakage on long cable runs must be avoided. Type A detection covers the majority of modern electronic loads (single-phase rectifiers, switched-mode supplies) that generate pulsating DC fault currents. Voltage-independent tripping means the RCD does not require a separate power supply or the line voltage to operate — it uses the fault energy itself to trip, so protection remains active even if the neutral is lost upstream.
Clip-on mounting onto a DIN rail — the module occupies 7 x 9 mm pitches, so 63 mm of rail width. Tunnel-type terminals accept 1…35 mm² rigid or 1…25 mm² flexible cable; tightening torque is 3.5 N·m. The connection to the iC60 MCB is by screws, which means the RCD bolts mechanically and electrically to the MCB's double-terminal busbar — no additional wiring between MCB and RCD. IP20 body with IP40 modular enclosure is standard for panel mounting; not rated for washdown.
Standards and environmental
Designed and certified to EN 61009-1 and IEC 61009-1 for RCBOs — this is the product standard for combined overcurrent and residual current devices, though this is an add-on RCD, not a combined unit. Rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp) is 6 kV; insulation voltage (Ui) is 500 V AC. Operating temperature range is -25…60 °C; storage from -40…85 °C. The 8/20 µs impulse withstand of 250 A confirms the device survives surge currents from lightning or switching transients without nuisance tripping.
