36-pulse topology and what it means for your line
The ATV1200A11506666: The 36-pulse diode rectifier bridge is the headline feature here — it cancels the 5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 17th, and 19th harmonics at the input, so the drive meets IEEE 519 without an external active filter. For a 1150 kVA apparent power rating, that saves a cabinet bay and the filter commissioning time. The phase-shifting transformer inside the enclosure creates the 36-pulse effect. The line current draw is 100 A at the 2970-3630 V supply range, so the upstream breaker and cable must be rated for medium voltage, not the 400 V class.
Physical footprint — the floor-space decision
The standard-efficiency variant measures 3360 mm wide × 1400 mm deep × 2520 mm high. The high-efficiency variant is wider at 3660 mm and deeper at 1600 mm, with height increasing to 2670 mm. That extra 300 mm width and 200 mm depth is the larger heat exchanger and higher air volume (19800 m³/h vs 16500 m³/h,). Floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows means the cooling air path is segregated from the power cell compartment — the forced convection fans pull from the room and exhaust through the top or rear. The 80 dB noise level is the fan and transformer audible output; plan for acoustic treatment if the drive is near operator stations.
Control supply and I/O architecture
The control electronics require an external 220 V AC supply at 3 kVA, separate from the main power. The cooling fans run off a separate 380 V AC supply. This split means the control cabinet can stay live for diagnostics while the main medium voltage is isolated — a commissioning and troubleshooting advantage. Four software-configurable analogue inputs accept 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA signals at 24 V max with 250 Ohm impedance. Six discrete inputs are standard, expandable to ten. The analogue output is also software-configurable for 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA. All I/O is electrically isolated from the power stage, so a ground fault on the motor side won't take out the PLC interface.
Overload capability and motor protection
Standard overload profile: 1.2 × In for 60 seconds, 1.5 × In for 3 seconds. High overload profile: 1.5 × In for 60 seconds, 1.85 × In for 3 seconds. The 961 kW motor power rating is at the drive's nominal output; the overload headroom handles starting torque and temporary load spikes on conveyors or crushers. Integrated ground fault protection monitors the motor circuit for leakage to earth. The drive also withstands a prospective line short-circuit current of 31.5 kA for 150 ms, so the upstream MV breaker must coordinate within that window. Dielectric strength is 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals, confirming the insulation class for 3.3 kV class systems.
Standards compliance and environmental limits
CE marked and designed to EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC), EN/IEC 61800-4 (environmental), EN/IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), EN/IEC 60204-11 (machinery), and EN/IEC 60529 (enclosure). Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 — suitable for clean, climate-controlled electrical rooms. Relative humidity range is 0-90 % standard, 0-95 % with the optional treatment. Operating position is vertical within ±10°. Vibration resistance is 4.9 m/s² at 10-50 Hz — adequate for floor-mounted installation in industrial buildings, but not for shipboard or seismic zones without additional anchoring.
