What this drive is built for
This is the Altivar 1200, Schneider's medium-voltage drive family for large induction and synchronous motors. The ATV1200A14003333 variant is rated for 1170 kW motor power at a supply voltage of 2970...3630 V, drawing 280 A line current and delivering 1400 kVA apparent power. The 18-pulse diode rectifier input stage reduces line current harmonics without an external filter — a real advantage when the utility or plant power quality standards demand low THID at the point of common coupling.
Physical footprint and installation reality
This is not a panel-mount drive. It ships as a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the transformer and power cells. Standard efficiency footprint is 3560 mm wide, 1400 mm deep, 2820 mm high; high-efficiency versions add 300 mm to width and 200 mm to depth. Cooling is forced convection requiring 29900 m3/h (standard efficiency) or 33200 m3/h (high efficiency) of air volume. The noise level at full load is 80 dB — plan for ear protection if the drive sits near a walkway or operator station. Main power connection uses bar terminals with M10 screws, accepting up to 6 x 40 mm² cable per phase, entry from bottom or top. Control supply is 220 V AC at 3 kVA; internal fan supply is 380 V AC.
Overload capability and protection
The drive offers two overload profiles: standard overload handles 1.2× In for 60 seconds and 1.5× In for 3 seconds; high overload handles 1.5× In for 60 seconds and 1.85× In for 3 seconds. Pick the profile that matches your motor's duty cycle — high overload gives more headroom for starting heavy loads like crushers or centrifuge. Built-in ground fault protection covers the drive itself. Dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 10 kV AC. The drive can withstand a prospective line short-circuit current of 31.5 kA for 150 ms. Operating altitude range is 1000...2000 m with current derating of 0.6 % per 100 m above 1000 m. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 applies — typical for a controlled electrical room environment.
CE marked. Standards compliance includes EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC), EN/IEC 61800-4, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1. Overvoltage category II per EN/IEC 61800-5-1. The integrated EMC filter simplifies installation in European markets. The drive composition includes a phase-shifting transformer, 9 power cells, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, and a human-machine interface. Control isolation is electrical between power and control circuits.
