Medium voltage drive for big motor loads
The Schneider Electric ATV1200A23104242 is an Altivar 1200 medium voltage drive rated for 1931 kW motor power and 2310 kVA apparent power. It's built for synchronous or asynchronous motors, pulling 320 A line current from a 2970...3630 V supply. This isn't a panel-mount VFD — it ships as a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the power section and control electronics, sized for a dedicated electrical room.
24-pulse input and overload capability
The 24-pulse diode rectifier bridge at the input knocks down line harmonics without a separate filter — the integrated EMC filter handles the rest. Overload ratings are generous: 1.2 In for 60 s standard, 1.5 In for 60 s high overload, and 1.85 In for 3 s high overload. That means it can handle a tough starting load or a short-term overcurrent without tripping, which matters when you're driving a crusher or a mill. The drive is built from 12 power cells, a phase-shifting transformer, medium voltage arrestors, cooling fans, and an HMI — all inside a grey (RAL 7032) enclosure. Electrical isolation between power and control, plus 20 kV AC dielectric strength between earth and power terminals, keeps the control side safe even when the output takes a hit.
Environmental and installation limits
The enclosure stands 2670 mm high, 5170 mm wide (standard efficiency) or 5470 mm (high efficiency), and 1500 mm or 1700 mm deep depending on the efficiency variant. Operating altitude is 1000...2000 m with a 0.6 % current derating per 100 m above 1000 m. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1, overvoltage category II. The drive must sit vertical within ±10 degrees, and the forced convection cooling needs 26400 m³/h of air — plan the room ventilation around that. Relative humidity range is 0...90 % standard, optional up to 95 %. Noise level hits 80 dB — ear protection zone signage is appropriate. The bar-type screw connection (M10) accepts up to 6 x 40 mm² cable per phase, entry from top or bottom. Prospective line Isc is 31.5 kA for 150 ms, so the upstream protection must coordinate to clear within that window.
