Sizing this 2550 kW medium-voltage drive
The ATV1200A30505555 is a medium-voltage AC drive rated for 2550 kW motor power, with a supply voltage window of 2970 to 3630 V AC. The 30-pulse diode rectifier bridge on the input side keeps line harmonics low enough that you can often skip a separate harmonic filter — a real advantage when the upstream transformer is already sized for the 3050 kVA apparent power this drive draws. This is a floor-standing cabinet, not a panel-mount unit — plan for a dedicated electrical room with a 2670 mm tall, 5770 mm wide (standard efficiency) or 6070 mm wide (high efficiency) footprint. The forced-convection cooling moves 29,700 m³/h of air, so the room HVAC needs to handle that thermal load. At 80 dB noise level, ear protection is warranted near the cabinet.
Overload capability and fault coordination
The overload withstand profile is what determines whether this drive handles your process duty cycle. Standard overload: 1.2× rated current for 60 seconds, 1.5× for 3 seconds. High overload: 1.5× for 60 seconds, 1.85× for 3 seconds. The prospective line short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms — that sets the upstream breaker coordination window. Dielectric strength is 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals, with overvoltage category II per EN/IEC 61800-5-1. The drive includes integrated ground fault protection and an EMC filter. Pollution degree 2 environment is assumed — clean, non-conductive dust only.
What is inside the cabinet
The product composition lists: 2 plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, medium voltage arrestors, cooling fans, a human-machine interface, and 15 power cells. The control supply is 220 V AC at 3 kVA (external), with an optional 220 V AC/DC control supply. The cooling fan has its own 380 V AC supply. The drive accepts synchronous or asynchronous motors. Analogue inputs: 4 channels, software-configurable 0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ohm impedance. Analogue outputs: same configurable current loop. Discrete inputs: 6 standard, expandable to 10. Electrical connection uses M10 screw-type bars accepting 6 x 40 mm² cable per phase, entry from bottom or top.
