Medium-voltage drive for large synchronous and asynchronous motors
The ATV1200A30506363 is a 2232 kW medium-voltage AC drive from the Altivar 1200 family, designed for large motor loads in the 3 kV class. It accepts a 2970…3630 V supply via a 36-pulse diode rectifier bridge, which reduces line-side harmonics below the thresholds that typically require external filters. It drives both synchronous and asynchronous motors, making it suitable for pumps, compressors, conveyors, and fans in heavy industries such as mining, cement, and water treatment.
Overload capability and duty-cycle fit
Standard overload rating: 1.2 × In for 60 seconds and 1.5 × In for 3 seconds. High overload rating: 1.5 × In for 60 seconds and 1.85 × In for 3 seconds. This means the drive handles short-duration peak torque demands during motor starting or process upsets without tripping.
Physical footprint and installation constraints
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the transformer and power cells. Standard-efficiency width is 5170 mm; high-efficiency width is 5470 mm. Depth is 1700 mm for both variants, and height is 2740 mm. The assembly includes the phase-shifting transformer, 18 power cells, cooling fans, and an HMI. Forced convection cooling requires 43,200 m³/h of air flow — plan the drive room HVAC capacity accordingly. The drive produces 80 dB acoustic noise at full load, so hearing protection zones near the enclosure are expected.
Standards compliance and insulation coordination
CE marked and conforms to EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC), EN/IEC 61800-4 (thermal), EN/IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), EN/IEC 60204-11 (machinery), and EN/IEC 60529 (enclosure protection). Pollution degree 2, overvoltage category II per EN/IEC 61800-5-1. Dielectric strength is 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals. Electrical isolation between power and control circuits is maintained. The integrated EMC filter covers conducted emissions for the 3 kV class without external add-ons.
