Medium-voltage drive for 2.6 MW synchronous and asynchronous motors
The ATV1200A31503333 is a Schneider Electric Altivar 1200 medium-voltage variable speed drive rated for 2633 kW motor power at 3150 kVA apparent power, accepting a supply voltage of 2970-3630 V. It drives both synchronous and asynchronous motors, making it suitable for large pump, fan, compressor, and conveyor applications in heavy industry. The 18-pulse diode rectifier input stage delivers low input current harmonics — typically meeting IEEE 519 without an external filter — and the integrated EMC filter simplifies panel compliance to EN/IEC 61800-3. The drive is CE marked and designed to EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3, EN/IEC 61800-4, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1.
Physical footprint and enclosure design
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure measuring 1700 mm deep, 5870 mm wide, and 2740 mm high. The enclosure separates power cell airflow from control compartment airflow, keeping electronics cooler and reducing dust ingress into the control section. Forced convection cooling moves 60,000 m³/h of air at standard efficiency. The internal cooling fan runs on a 380 V AC supply; the control electronics require an external 220 V AC, 3 kVA supply. An optional external 220 V AC/DC control supply and external 380 V AC fan supply are available. Main power connections use M10 screw-type bars accepting up to 6 x 40 mm² cable per phase, with entry from the top or bottom. The enclosure colour is grey RAL 7032.
Overload capability and protection
The drive offers two overload profiles: standard overload withstands 1.2× In for 60 s and 1.5× In for 3 s; high overload withstands 1.5× In for 60 s and 1.85× In for 3 s. Select the profile based on the load duty cycle — high overload suits crushers or extruders with short-duration peak torque demands. Ground fault protection is integrated into the drive. Dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 10 kV AC. The prospective short-circuit current rating is 31.5 kA for 150 ms, which must be coordinated with upstream protection. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 and overvoltage category II define the installation environment — clean, controlled indoor locations with transient suppression at the supply entry.
Control I/O and environmental limits
The drive provides 4 software-configurable analogue inputs (0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ω impedance) and 1 software-configurable analogue output (same range). Discrete inputs number 6, expandable to 10. Electrical isolation between power and control circuits protects the PLC interface from MV transients. Operating altitude is 1000-2000 m with current derating of 0.6% per 100 m above 1000 m. Vibration resistance is 4.9 m/s² over 10-50 Hz. Relative humidity range is 0-90% (0-95% optional). Noise level at full load is 80 dB — plan for hearing protection in the drive room. Speed range is 20-100%. Output voltage is equal to or less than the supply voltage. The drive composition includes 2 plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, 9 power cells, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, and an HMI.
