2951 kW MV drive for synchronous and asynchronous motors
The Schneider Electric ATV1200A35304242 is an Altivar 1200 medium voltage drive rated for 2951 kW motor power on a 2970-3630 V supply. It drives both synchronous and asynchronous motors — the 24-pulse diode rectifier front end keeps line-side harmonics low enough to skip a separate filter in most installations, and the apparent power rating of 3530 kVA gives the headroom the motor needs during acceleration.
Overload profiles and fault current coordination
Two overload profiles are available: standard overload handles 1.2× In for 60 s and 1.5× In for 3 s; high overload steps up to 1.5× In for 60 s and 1.85× In for 3 s. The prospective line short-circuit current is 31.5 kA for 150 ms — this figure feeds the selective coordination study for the upstream MV switchgear. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 and overvoltage category II define the insulation coordination envelope.
Floor-standing cabinet with separate air flows
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the power section and control compartment. Composition includes the phase-shifting transformer, 12 power cells, cooling fans, MV arrestors, and the HMI. Physical footprint: 5470 mm wide, 1700 mm deep, 2820 mm high — plan the substation floor layout around these dimensions, with clearance for the bottom or top cable entry on the M10 bar terminals.
Auxiliary supplies and cooling demand
Control power requires an external 220 V AC supply at 3 kVA; the cooling fan draws its own 380 V AC feed — both can be supplied as optional external feeds. Forced convection moves 43200 m³/h of cooling air at 80 dB noise level — the ventilation duct and acoustic treatment need to match this flow. Operating altitude above 1000 m requires derating the current by 0.6 % per 100 m up to 2000 m.
I/O complement and control wiring
Four software-configurable analogue inputs (0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ω impedance) and one analogue output of the same type. Six discrete inputs standard, expandable to ten. Electrical isolation between power and control circuits means the 24 VDC control loop stays referenced to the PLC ground, not the MV bus. Dielectric strength is 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals.
Compliance and standards coverage
CE marked. Standards applied: EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3, EN/IEC 61800-4, EN/IEC 61800-5-1. The integrated EMC filter covers conducted emissions for the drive system. Ground fault protection is built into the drive.
