Floor-standing MV drive — 1500 mm deep, 6870 mm wide, 2670 mm tall
The ATV1200A38101010 is a medium-voltage variable speed drive from the Altivar 1200 series, built for asynchronous motor control up to 3185 kW. It occupies a floor-standing enclosure measuring 1500 mm deep by 6870 mm wide by 2670 mm tall — this is not a panel-mount unit; it needs a dedicated equipment room or outdoor shelter with crane access for installation. The drive uses a 48-pulse diode rectifier front end, which keeps input harmonics low enough to meet IEEE 519 without an external filter in most installations. The internal phase-shifting transformer and 24 power cells deliver the stepped voltage waveform that drives the motor.
Power stage and overload — 3810 kVA, 220 A line current, 1.2 In for 60 s
Rated apparent power is 3810 kVA with a line current of 220 A at the 2970-3630 V supply range. The output voltage tracks the supply voltage — there is no step-up or step-down inside the drive. Overload capability is defined in two profiles: standard overload handles 1.2× rated current for 60 seconds and 1.5× for 3 seconds; high overload handles 1.5× for 60 seconds and 1.85× for 3 seconds. This lets the drive start high-inertia loads or ride through short-duration overload events without tripping. The drive withstands a prospective line short-circuit current of 31.5 kA for 150 ms, and the dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 28 kV AC — both figures confirm the insulation coordination for direct connection to medium-voltage distribution.
Cooling, noise, and environmental limits
Cooling is forced convection with separate air flows for the power cells and the transformer — the volume of cooling air is 26,400 m³/h at standard efficiency. The acoustic noise level is 80 dB, which matters for personnel exposure in the equipment room. Operating altitude is 1000 to 2000 m with a current derating of 0.6 % per 100 m above 1000 m. Relative humidity range is 0 to 90 % standard, 0 to 95 % optional. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 applies — the enclosure is rated for a controlled environment, not open outdoor exposure. The drive must be installed vertically within ±10 degrees. Vibration resistance is 4.9 m/s² at 10-50 Hz, which covers normal floor vibration in industrial buildings but not seismic zones without additional anchoring.
Control I/O and auxiliary supplies
The control section requires an external 220 V AC supply at 3 kVA; an optional 220 V AC/DC supply is available. The cooling fan runs from a separate 380 V AC supply — this means two independent auxiliary feeds must be run to the drive cabinet. Discrete inputs: 6 standard, expandable to 10 optional. Analogue inputs: 4, software-configurable for 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ω impedance. Analogue outputs: 1, also software-configurable for 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA DC. Electrical connection is via bar-type screw terminals M10, clamping capacity 6 × 40 mm² for the line supply (/R, L2/S, L3/T), with entry from the bottom or top of the enclosure.
CE marked. Standards applied include EN/IEC 60204-11 (electrical equipment of machines), EN/IEC 60529 (enclosure protection), EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC for drive systems), EN/IEC 61800-4 (drive specifications), and EN/IEC 61800-5-1 (electrical, thermal, and energy safety). The EMC filter is integrated. Production status is current — the drive is in active manufacture.
