Floor-standing MV drive — 3294 kW, 30-pulse input
The ATV1200A39406060 is a medium-voltage variable speed drive from the Altivar 1200 series, rated for 3294 kW motor power with a 30-pulse diode rectifier bridge input stage. The 30-pulse topology keeps line-side harmonics low enough to meet IEEE 519 without an active front end or external filter — a real advantage for sites with weak utility connections or strict power-quality requirements. Supply voltage range is 2970...3630 V, so this is a medium-voltage drive (not LV), and the output voltage equals the supply voltage minus internal drops. The 30-pulse rectifier draws 410 A line current at the rated apparent power of 3940 kVA.
Physical footprint and enclosure — expect a large floor-standing cabinet
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for power and control sections. Dimensions are substantial: depth 1700 mm, width 6070 mm, and height 2670 mm (standard efficiency) or 2970 mm (high efficiency). Plan for a dedicated equipment room or outdoor shelter with crane access — this is not a panel-mount unit. Cooling is forced convection with 29700 m³/h airflow (both efficiency variants). The noise level at full load is 80 dB — hearing protection in the vicinity is expected. Operating position is vertical within ±10 degrees.
What is inside — 15 power cells, transformer, HMI
The drive comprises 2 plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, a human-machine interface, and 15 power cells. The multilevel cell topology gives near-sinusoidal output voltage, reducing motor stress and bearing currents compared to two-level MV drives. Electrical isolation between power and control circuits is maintained, with dielectric strength tested at 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals. Overvoltage category is II per EN/IEC 61800-5-1, and pollution degree is 2.
Overload capability and motor compatibility
The drive supports both standard and high overload profiles. Standard overload: 1.2 × In for 60 s or 1.5 × In for 3 s. High overload: 1.5 × In for 60 s or 1.85 × In for 3 s. This lets you match the drive to either constant-torque (conveyor, extruder) or variable-torque (pump, fan) loads without oversizing. It is designed for both asynchronous (induction) and synchronous motors, with a speed range of 20...100 %. The integrated EMC filter simplifies compliance with EN/IEC 61800-3 emission limits.
I/O and control wiring
Control wiring connects to 4 software-configurable analogue inputs (0...20 mA / 4...20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ω impedance) and 2 analogue outputs (same current range). Discrete inputs number 6 standard, expandable to 10. The control supply is 220 V AC, 3 kVA, with an optional 220 V AC/DC external supply. Main power connection uses M10 bar-type terminals accepting 6 × 40 mm² conductors, entry from top or bottom. The prospective line short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms.
Lifecycle and sourcing — active production, quoted to order
The drive carries CE marking and complies with EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3, EN/IEC 61800-4, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1.
