The ATV1200A48603333 is a medium-voltage variable speed drive rated for 4063 kW motor power, designed to control both asynchronous and synchronous motors in heavy industrial applications. It accepts a supply voltage of 2970…3630 V and uses an 18-pulse diode rectifier bridge input, which inherently reduces line harmonics below IEEE 519 thresholds without requiring external harmonic filters.

18-pulse input and overload duty cycles

The 18-pulse topology shifts the 5th and 7th harmonics to higher orders that are easier to filter, meaning the drive meets typical utility harmonic limits at the point of common coupling without add-on filter cabinets. Overload capability is configurable: 1.2 × In for 60 s or 1.5 × In for 3 s under standard overload, and 1.5 × In for 60 s or 1.85 × In for 3 s under high overload — the high-overload profile suits applications with intermittent peak torque demands like crushers or mills. Line current is rated at 850 A with an apparent power of 4860 kVA, and the prospective short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms.

Modular cell architecture and enclosure

The drive is assembled in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the power cells and control section — the forced-convection cooling moves 60000 m³/h through the cabinet. It comprises 2 plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, 9 power cells, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, and an HMI — the modular cell design means a single failed cell can be bypassed to keep the motor running at reduced capacity until scheduled maintenance.
