What this MV drive delivers
The ATV1200A55401010 is a medium-voltage variable speed drive from the Altivar 1200 family, built for asynchronous motor control in the 4.6 MW range. It accepts a 2970–3630 V supply through a 48-pulse diode rectifier bridge, which keeps input harmonics low enough to meet IEEE 519 without an external filter. Rated motor power is 4631 kW with an apparent power of 5540 kVA and a line current of 320 A. The output voltage tracks the supply voltage, so the motor sees the full incoming line. The drive is assembled in a floor-standing enclosure with separate airflow paths for the power cells and the control section — a design that keeps heat from the transformer and cells away from the electronics. Forced convection cooling moves 56,400 m³/h of air at standard efficiency.
Internal build and I/O complement
Control I/O: four software-configurable analogue inputs (0–20 mA / 4–20 mA, 250 Ω impedance, 24 V max) and one analogue output of the same type. Six discrete inputs are standard, expandable to ten. The control supply is 220 V AC, 3 kVA, with an optional 220 V AC/DC external supply; the cooling fan runs on a separate 380 V AC feed.
Overload capacity and protection envelope
Overload withstand is defined for two duty classes: standard overload handles 1.2× rated current for 60 s and 1.5× for 3 s; high overload handles 1.5× for 60 s and 1.85× for 3 s. This lets the drive ride through motor starting and process upsets without tripping. Ground fault protection is built in. The dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 28 kV AC, and the prospective line short-circuit current rating is 31.5 kA for 150 ms — enough to coordinate with upstream MV switchgear in most industrial distributions. The drive is CE marked and complies with EN/IEC 60204-11, EN/IEC 60529, EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC), EN/IEC 61800-4, and EN/IEC 61800-5-1.
Siting and environmental limits
Physical envelope: 1600 mm deep, 9070 mm wide, 3040 mm high. The drive must be installed vertically within ±10° and in an area with relative humidity 0–90 % (0–95 % optional). Operating altitude is 1000–2000 m with a current derating of 0.6 % per 100 m above 1000 m. Vibration resistance is 4.9 m/s² over 10–50 Hz. The noise level at full load is 80 dB — hearing protection is advisable near the enclosure. The main power connection uses M10 screw-type bar terminals accepting up to 6 × 40 mm² cable per phase, entry from bottom or top.
