Medium-voltage drive for large motor loads
The ATV1200A63005555 is a Schneider Electric Altivar 1200 AC drive rated for 5267 kW motor power, designed to drive asynchronous and synchronous motors in high-power applications. It accepts a 2970-3630 V supply and uses a 30-pulse diode rectifier bridge on the input, which inherently reduces line-side harmonics without external filters.
Overload profile and fault handling
The drive handles 1.2 × In for 60 seconds and 1.5 × In for 3 seconds under standard overload; a high-overload mode pushes to 1.5 × In for 60 seconds and 1.85 × In for 3 seconds. This gives flexibility for starting heavy inertia loads like large fans or crushers without oversizing the drive. The prospective line short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms, meaning the drive can ride through a fault on the supply side without immediate damage, provided upstream protection is coordinated. Ground fault protection is built into the drive itself.
Physical build and cooling
This is a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the power cells and control section. Dimensions are 1600 mm deep × 8670 mm wide × 3040 mm high, and forced convection moves 80000 m³/h of air through the cabinet. The noise level at full cooling is 80 dB. The drive ships with two plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, a human-machine interface, and 15 power cells. The control section requires an external 220 V AC supply at 3 kVA; the cooling fans run on 380 V AC.
Compliance and lifecycle
Electrical isolation between power and control circuits is standard, and the integrated EMC filter covers conducted emissions for the drive's rated environment. Pollution degree 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1 applies, and overvoltage category is II.
