What this drive is and what it powers
The ATV1200A66606363 is a Schneider Electric Altivar 1200 medium-voltage AC drive rated for 5016 kW motor power, designed for asynchronous motors in heavy industrial applications. It sits in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the power section and control electronics. The 36-pulse diode rectifier bridge on the input side means this drive draws line current with low harmonic distortion — 550 A line current at 6000 kVA apparent power — which keeps the upstream transformer and switchgear from overheating on harmonic-rich loads.
Physical size and site planning
This is a large unit: 3040 mm tall, 8570 mm wide, 1800 mm deep. The volume of cooling air required is 90,000 m³/h, so the installation room needs substantial ventilation or ducted exhaust. Forced-convection cooling with separate air flows means the power cell heat is rejected directly rather than warming the control cabinet.
Overload capability and protection
Standard overload rating: 1.2× rated current for 60 seconds, or 1.5× for 3 seconds. High overload profile: 1.5× for 60 seconds, 1.85× for 3 seconds. This matters when the driven load has a heavy breakaway torque or a short-duration peak — a crusher or a centrifuge, for example — because the drive holds torque through the transient without tripping. Ground fault protection is built into the drive, and the prospective short-circuit current withstand is 31.5 kA for 150 ms. Dielectric strength between earth and power terminals is 20 kV AC. The pollution degree is 2 per EN/IEC 61800-5-1, which covers the normal industrial environment with non-conductive dust.
Control supply and I/O
The control electronics need an external 220 V AC supply rated at 3 kVA. There is also an optional external 220 V AC/DC supply. The cooling fans run on a separate 380 V AC supply — this separation means you can keep the control alive while the main power is off, which helps during commissioning and fault-finding. Four software-configurable analogue inputs (0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, 250 Ω impedance) and one analogue output (same range). Six discrete inputs standard, expandable to ten. The I/O is electrically isolated from the power stage, so field wiring faults on the control side won't propagate into the drive's power section.
CE marked, with integrated EMC filter. Standards compliance includes EN/IEC 60204-11 (electrical equipment of machines), EN/IEC 60529 (IP enclosure), EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC for drives), EN/IEC 61800-4 (drive performance), and EN/IEC 61800-5-1 (electrical safety). Overvoltage category II per the same safety standard.
