36-pulse medium-voltage drive for synchronous and asynchronous motors
The ATV1200A7206363 is a Schneider Electric Altivar 1200 series AC drive rated for 443 kW motor power and 530 kVA apparent power, supplied from a 2970–3630 V three-phase line. The 36-pulse diode rectifier front end keeps input harmonics low enough that a separate harmonic filter is often unnecessary on the line side — a real advantage for installations where the utility imposes strict THID limits. It drives both synchronous and asynchronous motors. The output voltage follows the supply voltage, so the motor insulation system sees a voltage determined by the incoming line, not a boosted DC bus — a consideration when retrofitting into an existing winding class.
Overload profiles and short-circuit coordination
Standard overload is 1.2× In for 60 s or 1.5× In for 3 s; high overload allows 1.5× In for 60 s or 1.85× In for 3 s. The prospective line Isc is 31.5 kA for 150 ms — the upstream protection must clear within that window to keep the drive's semiconductor fuses intact. The drive is assembled in a floor-standing enclosure with separate air flows for the transformer and power cells. Forced convection cooling moves 16500 m³/h in the high-efficiency variant and 13200 m³/h in the standard-efficiency build. The noise level is 80 dB — ear protection zones around the enclosure are expected. The product composition includes two plinths, a phase-shifting transformer, medium-voltage arrestors, cooling fans, an HMI, and 18 power cells. This multi-cell topology is what enables the 36-pulse input and also provides a degree of fault tolerance — a failed cell can be bypassed while the drive continues running at reduced capacity.
Physical footprint and site preparation
The enclosure dimensions vary by efficiency class: standard efficiency is 3060 mm wide × 1400 mm deep × 2520 mm high; high efficiency is 3360 mm wide × 1500 mm deep × 2670 mm high. The operating position is vertical ±10°. Floor loading and overhead clearance for transformer removal need to be confirmed before the unit arrives on site. Power connection is via M10 screw-type bars accepting up to 6 × 40 mm² cable per phase, entry from the top or bottom. The control supply can be 220 V AC at 3 kVA externally, with an optional 220 V AC/DC supply; the cooling fan has its own 380 V AC supply, also optional.
Standards, isolation, and environmental limits
CE marked, designed to EN/IEC 61800-3 (EMC), EN/IEC 61800-4 (harmonics), and EN/IEC 61800-5-1 (safety). Electrical isolation between power and control circuits. Dielectric strength is 20 kV AC between earth and power terminals. Operating altitude is 1000–2000 m with a 0.6 % current derating per 100 m above 1000 m. Relative humidity range is 0–90 % (0–95 % optional). Vibration resistance is 4.9 m/s² at 10–50 Hz.
I/O complement and control supply
Four software-configurable analogue inputs (0–20 mA / 4–20 mA, 24 V max, 250 Ω impedance) and one analogue output (same current range, 250 Ω impedance). Six discrete inputs standard, expandable to ten.
Listed as current production.
