22 kW VFD for pump and fan duty
The ATV212HD22N4 is a 22 kW variable speed drive from the Schneider Altivar 212 series, designed for three-phase 480 VAC motor control in HVAC pumping and fan applications. Rated line current is 33.1 A at 480 V and 41.6 A at 380 V, with an apparent power of 33.2 kVA at 380 V — the 22 kW motor power rating is the continuous duty ceiling for a standard induction motor.
EMC compliance and installation planning
An integrated Class C2 EMC filter is built in, covering conducted emissions for first-environment (residential) installations per IEC 61800-3 category C2 — this avoids the need for an external filter in most commercial building applications. The drive carries CE marking and complies with IEC 61800-5-1 for safety, plus UL Type 1 enclosure rating for indoor panel mounting. Dimensions are 16.5 in (420 mm) high by 9.4 in (240 mm) wide by 8.4 in (214 mm) deep — the depth is the key constraint for shallow backpanel enclosures; allow clearance for the heatsink airflow of 214 m³/h.
Protection and control interface
Protection covers overheating of the power stage, short-circuit between motor phases, earth faults, DC bus overvoltage, input phase loss, and motor thermal protection via PTC probes — the drive self-monitors these without external relays. The control interface includes two analogue inputs (VIA switchable 0–10 VDC or 0–20 mA, VIB configurable voltage or PTC probe), an adjustable PI regulator for closed-loop process control, and a 2-wire RS-485 port running Modbus RTU at 9600 or 19200 bps. Speed accuracy is ±10 % of nominal slip from 0.2 Tn to Tn, and torque accuracy is ±15 % — adequate for pump/fan regulation but not for precision servo positioning.
